The past week was a very busy one. Mad City Chicks is not just about three chicks and their families getting healthy, it's also about promoting the whole idea of being healthy and making better choices.
Something I run into all the time is people saying they would love homemade, healthy products but they don't have the time to make them. For awhile my friends and I would make homemade items for our families and compare notes with each other and give some so they could try it. Slowly the idea began to be born that if so many people were saying they wanted homemade and we were all making homemade, then why don't we just sell it.
For the past few weeks we have embarked on doing just that. We originally set a goal to start selling in September. However, we looked at our products and realized we could start a lot sooner if we worked really hard for about a month. So we organized, delegated tasks, did market research, found suppliers, set up websites, twitter, and email. We're now down to the last few straggling things: finishing a business card, tweaking our supply design, and preparing display materials.
All of this is because we applied to a farmers market and have been informally accepted to sell about 10 different products. This is where I was jumping up and down on the inside because I considered it to be the biggest obstacle. Now we can get our feet wet, so to speak, get experience, and see if we were right that people do want more all natural, homemade products.
If you are in or around the area and want to visit the farmers market, we are planning to be at the San Marcos Farmers Market on Tuesday, June 1st. The market is from 3 to 6 pm. Just look for Mad City Chicks.

Update: It looks like we won't be able to make it to the Tuesday market due to end of school singing performances. We look forward to our first market on Friday, June 4th, at the New Braunfels Farmers Market.
